ICD – LSEG Islamic Finance Development Report 2026: Growth Amid Headwinds

The global Islamic finance industry continued its growth trajectory in 2025 as total assets grew to US$6.5 trillion, representing an annual growth of 9%. The growth was noted across different Islamic finance sectors and asset classes, reinforcing the industry's increasing maturity and relevance in supporting economic development, financial inclusion, and sustainable finance across different markets.

The 2026 edition of the Islamic Finance Development Report evaluates the global performance of the Islamic finance industry throughout 2025. The report is based on the Islamic Finance Development Indicator (IFDI), which assesses 140 countries across five different indicators: Financial Performance, Governance, Knowledge, Sustainability, and Awareness. The report is published in collaboration with the Islamic Corporation for the Development of Private Sector (ICD) of the Islamic Development Bank Group.

This year's report highlights the continued expansion of Islamic finance beyond its traditional centres. While leading markets such as Malaysia, Saudi Arabia and the UAE remain at the forefront of industry development, new opportunities are emerging in markets such as Africa and Central Asia, supported by expanding market ecosystems and growing interest. The report also explores major developments shaping the industry, including sustainability, sukuk market expansion and the increasing integration of Islamic finance into global capital markets.

In addition, the report examines how the recent geopolitical developments have affected different sectors of the industry and assesses the outlook for Islamic finance as global assets are projected to exceed US$10.5 trillion by 2030.
