Description of the dataset
- LSEG delivers Vessel Check as an opt-in integrated screening capability within World-Check One, helping customers assess vessel-related risk in a single platform. Vessel Check combines S&P Global (previously IHS Markit) Maritime Data with World-Check Risk Intelligence so users can screen vessels for ownership structure, IMO identifiers, sanctions exposure, regulatory risk and other financial crime-related risk indicators.
- Vessel Check supports organisations involved in trade finance, insurance, energy, commodities, import/export and corporate third-party risk workflows. It helps compliance teams reduce the risk of engaging vessels that may appear on sanctions or enforcement lists, be connected to embargoed countries or sanctioned parties, have links to illicit activity, or operate as “phantom ships” with falsified identity, ownership, dimensions or characteristics.
- The solution uses a two-steps screening approach:
- First, vessel identity, location and ownership records are screened and verified against S&P Global Maritime Data, covering sea-going, self-propelled merchant ships of 100 gross tonnage and above, including IMO numbers, ownership, management, vessel name, flag and historical changes.
- Second, entities are screened against World-Check data to identify sanctions, watchlist, enforcement, embargo, financial crime and connected-party risk.
- Vessel Check combines maritime reference data covering more than 230,000+ vessels with World-Check Risk Intelligence, helping users identify individuals and entities related to, or associated with, a vessel. S&P Global Maritime Data provides vessel and related company information, including seven levels of ownership, over 15 years of vessel and service inspection history.
- The dataset supports governed vessel screening by providing an audit trail within World-Check One, helping customers evidence due diligence activity for regulatory and internal compliance purposes. The existing data trust record also documents Vessel Check with field-level governance metadata, including source classification, authoritative source usage, business element names, business term definitions, owner details, stewardship roles, database location, dataset type and mastering approach.
