My focus on incident prevention, observability, and cross-team collaboration, directly supporting LSEG’s mission to deliver dependable, scalable, and economically efficient market infrastructure globally. For me, reliability isn’t just a feature, it’s the foundation of trust.
Collaboration without borders
I collaborate across teams and geographies by setting clear, shared goals and using organised, effective communication, always mindful of time zones. I document decisions, share concise updates, and keep meetings focused for alignment. Building trust through open communication and cultural awareness is key – it’s what keeps our distributed teams coordinated and effective. Great teams aren’t defined by borders; they’re united by purpose.
Driven by curiosity
Curiosity drives my growth. I dedicate 40 minutes every day to focused learning, exploring new ideas and challenging my assumptions. My priorities for the coming year include implementing Agentic AI, deep diving into DevOps tools, and strengthening my leadership skills. I ask questions, learn from peers, and apply what I discover immediately, because curiosity is the engine that drives innovation.
Favourite moments at work
The best part of my workday is connecting with my team, whether we’re solving a tough reliability challenge or workshopping ideas for automation. Those moments of teamwork energise me because they combine creativity with impact.
Making an impact
This year, I used my LSEG volunteering days (part of our global benefits) to visit Cubbon Park in Bengaluru with the Parikrama team. Spending time with primary school students was heartwarming, and their curiosity and energy were infectious, especially during a boat ride. The experience made me nostalgic for my own childhood and reminded me of the joy in simple moments.

A typical day in my role
My day starts by checking in across squads to see where support is needed and prioritising focus areas – knowing things can shift quickly. No two days are the same; new challenges, decisions, and problem-solving all keep me engaged. I focus on removing blockers, offering clarity, and empowering the team to work confidently and independently.
Alignment is key, so I connect with squads, stakeholders, and leadership to keep everyone on track. These conversations give me fresh insights and help me adapt fast. I learn something every day, whether it’s technology, people, or a new way to solve a problem. Working across time zones means mornings with APAC and evenings with UK/Europe, diving into system design, syncing on technical priorities, and coaching team members.
What makes LSEG’s engineering culture unique
LSEG’s Engineering culture is truly inclusive. I’ve always felt supported, heard and provided with opportunities to develop my skill in tech. Everyone works together and grows together, innovation thrives – and that makes the environment special. I love the opportunity to learn from diverse, talented people. Every interaction opens new perspectives, sparks fresh ideas, and fuels collaboration that not only broadens my horizons, but accelerates my growth.
Why I love engineering
Working on a major data modernisation project reminded me why I love engineering. It was like solving a massive puzzle, connecting legacy pieces, closing gaps, and bringing it all together on the Cloud. When the new solution launched, it delivered real impact. It reminded me: this is why I love what I do.
Growth and opportunity
The new Career Framework provides a clearer roadmap for my growth, highlighting the skills and competencies I need to build next. It opens both people-leader and individual-contributor career paths, giving me the flexibility to explore different directions.
Valued benefits
The benefit I value most is a combination of hybrid working and carer leave, two things that genuinely support my wellbeing and help me bring my best self to work. They make me feel supported, grounded and able to show up fully for both my team and my family. Hybrid working gives me the balance between focus and connection. I enjoy being in the office for collaboration and the energy of working side by side with my team to generate ideas. And I appreciate hybrid days for deep thinking work and maintaining healthy rhythm in my day. Carer leave means more to me personally, as life doesn’t always go as planned, and I appreciate knowing that the company supports us when we need to take care of the people we love.
Recent learning
I’ve been learning a lot through mentorship. Having a mentor has opened new perspectives for me, letting me learn from someone else’s experiences, see situations through a different lens and understand approaches I might not have considered on my own. It’s helped me grow both as a leader and as a person. I’m learning to ask better questions, reflect more deeply and navigate challenges with more clarity. It’s a reminder that growth doesn’t always come from doing more – sometimes it comes from listening, observing and learning from others.
How I relax
Solving puzzles helps me unwind and reset my mind. Travelling, especially to the beach, reminds me to breathe, enjoy the moment, and appreciate simple things like waves and warm light. Sunset and nature always give me a sense of calm and new energy before stepping into the next challenge.
Simon
Group Director, Software Engineering
Based in: London
Year at LSEG: > 6 Years
Favourite tech: AI
Quick fact: Loves playing guitar
A typical day in my role
I start my day early, around 07:30 with a one-to-one with an Engineer in one of my squads. We run scrumlike ceremonies, so I dip into standups, refinements, and goalsetting. If it’s Friday, I’ll attend team demos wherever possible. I speak with Product Owners and Customers to discuss features on roadmaps and ask our Tech Leads to work on an area of innovation that we agree needs work or evaluation. Throughout the day, I talk to vendors, partners and colleagues around the direction of Daas, writing Excalidraws and Lucids to attempt to articulate our problem domain and direction of travel for Multicloud Distribution. At the end of the day, I plan for the next one, and review my personal Asana to make sure the important work doesn’t get lost.
Global by design
I work with colleagues in Thailand, India, Kazakhstan, continental Europe, the United Kingdom, and across the Americas every day. It’s so normal that you could miss how extraordinary it is. That global mix isn’t just a backdrop, it shapes better products, richer ideas, and stronger teams. The performance of my teams comes from dedication to shared goals and a willingness to help one another. When we give people access to opportunity and they put in the work together, teams become more than the sum of their parts. A company and a team are what you put into it.
An engineering culture of opportunity and access
Access to senior leadership is genuinely a click away, calendars notwithstanding. If you want a conversation, prepare well and make the call. I do believe we are all contributing to an engineering landscape that is enabling product delivery and creating opportunities.
Why I love engineering
A highlight that still makes me smile is when our Tick History dataset recently crossed 111 trillion rows of data, and we did it with a team of five Engineers. Scale like that demands craft, clarity and care. It proves that focused teams, aligned on outcomes, can deliver outsized impact. Programming languages let me take a harebrained idea, make it real, kick the tyres, and decide whether it’s harebrained or not. Pair that with AI and it brings back the thrill of my nine-year-old “a-ha” moments with “Hello, World”, except now it’s “Hello, Tomorrow!” AI is going to open up so much more of the computer science map for us to explore, and that’s genuinely exciting.
Growing careers
Our new Engineering Career Framework matters to me because it says you can keep your hands on a keyboard while expanding your impact and reach. Technical depth and progression aren’t either or, they’re both. I want engineers to see that you can build, learn and lead without losing the joy of making real software.
Valued benefits
Almost five years ago, I had a serious climbing accident that nearly cost me my right leg below the knee. Recovery was extremely traumatic, physically and mentally. The physiotherapy available through our healthcare benefit made a profound difference. I can run and handle stairs without too much of a hobble.
Life outside work
Spending time with my family (I have two kids). I’m finally learning how to use my guitar looper. To switch off, I walk my dog, play my guitars, write software, and cook. I also play a little too much PUBG on my Xbox.

Inspired by global impact
The opportunity to work on systems that have a real, global impact is what inspired me to join LSEG’s team of engineers. LSEG isn’t just a financial institution it’s a technology-driven organisation that powers markets, data, and analytics across the world. That scale and complexity really appealed to me, and I knew I wanted to be part of something that shapes the future of finance.
Engineering for the future
Engineering is shaping finance to be more agile, transparent, and customer-focused and that’s a future I’m proud to help build. Every day, I see how our work makes financial systems more responsive and resilient, and I’m excited to contribute to innovations that matter on a global scale.
Collaboration across teams
I make it a priority to build impactful relationships with teams outside of engineering - whether it’s product, operations, or customer support. I start by listening carefully to understand everyone’s perspective as non-technical insights help build an overall view of the customer experience, things we might not see from a technical angle. Once we understand the problem together, I work to translate it into technical terms and explore solutions that are both feasible and impactful. Regular check-ins, shared documentation, and openness to feedback are key to keeping everyone aligned. It’s not just about solving the issue, it’s about solving it in a way that makes sense for the customer and the business.
Career growth and development
Our Engineering Career Framework has given me clarity and structure around my growth. It’s helped me understand not just where I am today, but what skills and behaviours I need to develop to move forward. I’ve identified areas like strategic thinking and cross-functional leadership that I want to strengthen, and I’ve used the framework to set specific goals. It’s also helped me have more focused conversations with my manager. Rather than just talking about tasks, we’re now discussing long-term development and impact. That shift has made my career planning feel more intentional and aligned with both my personal goals and the organisation’s direction.
Our culture and scale
Honestly, the most surprising thing has been the scale and complexity of the technology behind the scenes. I knew LSEG was a major player in financial markets, but I didn’t realise how deeply engineering drives everything from real-time data delivery to global infrastructure resilience. Another surprise was how collaborative and open the culture is. People across teams and regions are genuinely willing to share knowledge and work together to solve problems. That’s made it easier to learn, grow, and contribute meaningfully from day one.
Supporting our communities
I used my two days paid volunteering time to get involved with a local environmental group that organises clean-up events around Creve Coeur Lake, Missouri, a place I love and visit often. It felt natural to support a space that brings me so much peace and joy. We spent the day collecting litter, planting native grasses, and helping maintain the trails. It was hands-on, collaborative, and energising. What meant the most to me was seeing how small efforts can make a visible impact and doing it alongside people who care about the community. It reminded me that supporting our communities doesn’t have to be complicated, it just takes showing up.
