FTSE Russell, the global index provider, today confirms the schedule for the Reconstitution of the Russell US Indexes, set to occur after market close on 11 December 2026. This will be the second reconstitution of 2026 and the first December reconstitution in more than three decades, completing the index family’s return to a semi-annual schedule.
The reconstitution is designed to capture changes in company size and market shifts to ensure the widely used Russell US Indexes continue to accurately reflect the US equity market. The move to semi-annual reconstitution followed market consultation and data analysis undertaken in response to evolving market dynamics. More information is available on the FTSE Russell website.
The December 2026 Russell Reconstitution schedule is as follows:
- Friday 30 October – “Rank Day” – Index eligibility and related data inputs determined as of market close.
- Friday 13 November – Preliminary index additions and deletions published after US market close.
- Monday 16 November to Friday 27 November – Query period.
- Monday 30 November – “Lockdown” period begins.
- Friday 11 December – Reconstitution changes take effect after the close of US equity markets.
- Monday 14 December – Markets open with the reconstituted Russell US Indexes.
Catherine Yoshimoto, Director, Product Management, FTSE Russell, said:
“As markets evolve, the now semi-annual Russell Reconstitution ensures that Russell US Indexes continue to reflect changes across the investable US equity landscape. Our transparent, rules-based approach helps investors anticipate and prepare for index updates with confidence. The significant trading activity surrounding the reconstitution illustrates the scale of assets benchmarked to Russell indexes and the trust investors worldwide place in our benchmarks.”
By the December reconstitution, the Russell 3000® Index will also serve as the US foundation of the Russell 9000 Global Index, extending the Russell framework across US, developed ex-US and emerging markets.
For the December review, new style probabilities will apply to new additions, including IPOs, and companies moving between the Russell 1000® Index and Russell 2000® Index. Companies remaining in the same parent index will retain their June 2026 style probabilities.
The December review completes the first year under the reinstated semi-annual reconstitution schedule for the Russell US Indexes, with reviews held in June and December. Together with quarterly IPO additions and ongoing index maintenance, the process helps ensure the indexes remain current and relevant measures of the US equity market.
