Exporting can seem a daunting prospect, but it can help you grow rapidly and insulate your business in an economic downturn. That has been the experience of ADDER, which designs and manufactures switches, extenders and IP solutions for controlling local, remote and global IT systems. The company distributes its products in more than 60 countries, with its brand now recognised in most developed economies and gaining recognition in fast-developing economic markets such as China.

Managing Director Adrian Dickens says: "By focusing on export, the company is less affected by changing economic tides, which helped us grow significantly throughout the last downturn." ADDER prides itself on delivering high-quality, reliable devices – something that’s largely down to the company’s decision to manufacture products in-house at its manufacturing facility in Cambridge. "This enables us to focus on quality and ensures a passionate team of local people with a real desire to produce the very best product possible," says Adrian.
Another factor in ADDER’s success has been its determination to understand and keep pace with ever-changing customer needs. "With the rapid rise of digital video technologies and industry focus on ultra high-definition screens, our customers are constantly looking for new ways to work," Adrian says, who retains the same passion for his company as he did when he established it in 1984 – a quality that can prove priceless for a business starting out.
He emphasises: "Passion combined with expertise will always help deliver the right decisions in those sometimes difficult early years."
