Advanced Medical Solutions
How do you grow a business in healthcare markets where there is pressure to reduce healthcare budgets but where quality expectations are, if anything, increasing? For Advanced Medical Solutions (AMS), which manufactures advanced wound care dressing products, the answer has been to combine innovation with organic growth and selective acquisitions.
"Our R&D pipeline is excellent and we are confident we will continue to bring through new products and applications"
Chris Meredith, CEO, Advanced Medical Solutions
Chris Meredith, CEO of AMS, explains: "We have developed or acquired a range of advanced wound care and wound closure products that match or outperform the competition but also deliver clear cost savings to our global customers. Some of this we have done by making acquisitions – we bought a Netherlands-based business and a German company in 2009 and 2011 respectively – but the opening of our world-class headquarters in Winsford, Cheshire, in 2010 also enabled us to deliver significant operational efficiencies for our customers. We now have more than 450 highly talented people and manufacture from six sites in the UK and Europe.
"Our ActivHeal brand is becoming the product of choice for a growing number of NHS Trusts, contributing to a global business that continues to achieve strong growth.

"AMS started out in 1991 as a research-driven company, and research and development remains at the heart of what we do. We welcome the UK’s new Patent Box scheme, which enables companies to apply a lower rate of Corporation Tax to profits earned from patented inventions and certain other innovations. This kind of government assistance, combined with lower taxes and reduced bureaucracy, is important in helping businesses like us stay ahead of the competition.
"One challenge for us is the time it takes to obtain approvals for global products, because of the growing requirements of regulatory bodies. However, our R&D pipeline is excellent and we are confident we will continue to bring through new products and applications. We are excited about our future and the opportunities ahead."
