Chilean Finance Minister Opens London Stock Exchange Trading

The London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG) welcomed Chile’s Minister of Finance, Felipe Larraín, together with a delegation of Chilean government officials and business leaders. To mark the occasion the Minister took part in a Market Open Ceremony at the LSE’s headquarters in Paternoster Square.

The business delegation, visiting London to promote investment opportunities in Chile included the Chairman of Antofagasta; one of the world’s largest international copper producing companies and the oldest London listed company on the Main Market.

Minister of Finance Felipe Larraín, said he was very happy to lead the Chilean delegation to London and to have conducted the market open. He commented that the London markets have helped two of Chile’s most high profile companies’ to flourish and he wants to enhance the long commercial relationship dating from the 19th century. He also added that this visit comes off the back of a period of continued economic growth and prosperity for Chile and that the Chilean industry is growing year on year, which is reflected in its GDP per capita being the highest in South America.

There are six Chilean focussed companies listed on the London Stock Exchange with a collective market capitalisation of over £19bn. Banco de Chile and Antofagasta are listed on the Main Market, with mining and resources companies, Herencia Resources, Mariana Resources, Geopark Holdings and Metminco listed on AIM, the London Stock Exchange’s market for smaller, growing companies.
