  • London Stock Exchange Market Open

Wednesday 11th December 2013

On Wednesday 11 December, 9 aspiring young entrepreneurs who have won a place on the UKTI’s Sirius Programme were hosted by the London Stock Exchange for the opening of the markets. Joining us today were successful applicants from China, New Zealand, Italy and Nigeria.

It is an enormous achievement for these first round of teams that have been accepted on the Programme, as there have been over 560 applications from over 65 countries.

The Sirius Programme aims to bring the world’s brightest entrepreneurial talent to the UK, enabling the best graduates with innovative start-up ideas to launch their businesses here. The 12-month Programme offers global graduates an opportunity to develop their business ideas, with the package including a place on a business accelerator programme, mentoring, financial support and visa endorsement.

Commenting on the event, Trade and Investment Minister Lord Livingston said: “We are pleased to welcome these young entrepreneurs to London for this important event to mark the pioneering Sirius Programme. Through the Programme, we hope to attract hundreds of talented entrepreneurs to the UK, with each successful business creating new jobs, bringing in foreign investment and making a significant cumulative impact to the UK economy.  The UK is a fantastic place to start a business - not only are our consumers keen to try new innovations, but being based here will give the successful applicants access to 500 million customers in Europe. There is a wealth of exciting business ideas out there and so we’re encouraging talented graduates to enter before the 15 January deadline for a chance to join the Programme”.
