Today London Stock Exchange welcomed MassChallenge

Today London Stock Exchange welcomed MassChallenge, the most startup-friendly accelerator on the planet, who is marking the successful end to its first year in the UK after expanding from its Boston headquarters in 2015. Startups from its 2015 cohort, who won shares of £500,000 in no-equity cash awards, were in attendance. MassChallenge, which is a no-equity and not-for-profit accelerator, was also joined by some of its corporate sponsors including IBM, Visa Europe Collab, Fried Frank and Crowdcube.

MassChallenge CEO John Harthorne opened the market with Gerard Grech, CEO of Tech City UK and member of the MassChallenge UK Advisory Board, as well as Pete Dowds of Handy, a 2012 MassChallenge alumnus company that has raised £74 million ($111 million USD) to date.

“MassChallenge has had a superb first year in the UK. We have seen our startups grow so much in just a few short months and we gather today to celebrate them,” said MassChallenge CEO John Harthorne. “MassChallenge is changing the world through innovation-led economic development by supporting the economy’s most vital resource for growth – entrepreneurs. We are also helping them access the most powerful corporations in the world. It won’t be long before we see some of these startups listed on the London Stock Exchange themselves.”
