london stock exchange welcomes avi japan opportunity trust to the premium segment of the main market

London Stock Exchange today welcomes Asset Value Investors, active investors in international equities for over 30 years, to open its markets for the launch of the AVI Japan Opportunity Trust plc. This new trust will be listed on the Premium Segment of the Main Market and is a high conviction long-only investment trust established to provide shareholders with capital growth through investing in undervalued cash-rich and over-capitalised small-cap Japanese equities. The concentrated portfolio is expected to have approximately 20-30 holdings.

Asset Value Investors (AVI), the management group for AJOT, will leverage its three decades of experience investing in asset-backed companies to engage with management and help to unlock value in this under-researched area of the market thereby encouraging companies to follow the spirit of the corporate governance changes in Japan.

Joe Bauernfreund, CEO and CIO of AVI, commented:

“I am pleased to be at the London Stock Exchange’s Market Open today to celebrate the successful launch of the AVI Japan Opportunity Trust plc. It has been wonderful to see the interest in this exciting opportunity in this segment of the market in Japan. The entire team at AVI would like to thank all of our shareholders for their support. We look forward to getting the funds invested and capitalising on this investment opportunity.”

Norman Crighton, Chairman of AVI Japan Opportunity Trust plc, noted:

“We are delighted to be here to celebrate our listing on the Premium Segment of the Main Market.”

Dickson Minto W. S. acted as sponsor and joint placing agents were Kepler Partners and N+1 Singer. Quill and CES Investments Ltd also supported the successful IPO.
