London Stock Exchange Group welcomes HANetf and Purpose Investments celebrating the launch of the Medical Cannabis and Wellness UCITS ETF (CBDX)
HANetf is delighted to announce that, together with Canadian based asset manager, Purpose Investments, they are launching The Medical Cannabis and Wellness UCITS ETF (CBDX) on London Stock Exchange on January 22nd, 2020.
The CBDX ETF is the first and only European UCITS ETF to deliver targeted exposure to the rapidly expanding medical cannabis industry.
The ETF offers investors exposure to the medical cannabis sector via a transparent, diversified and rigorously screened basket of legal cannabis, hemp and CBD-related securities.
Greg Taylor, Chief Invetment Officer from Purpose Investments commented:“Medical cannabis and Cannabidiol (CBD) products, which are used to treat symptoms related to conditions such as cancer, epilepsy and chronic pain, are now legal in over 40 countries with more expected to follow suit. There is massive interest in the medical potential of cannabis, especially around pain relief and as an alternative to opiate-based pain relief, which has been linked to health issues globally.” He further commented: “In Europe, there are now 28 countries with some form of medical cannabis legislation, with the UK being the largest producer and exporter of medical grade cannabis in the world. As of 2018, the global medical cannabis market size was US$ 13.4 Billion. We expect new developments to better understand the medical benefits of this plant and new markets to open up. We believe that the cannabis sector is still in the infancy stages of a multi-year growth phase and are very excited to bring the first medical cannabis to Europe with our partners, HANetf.”
The constituents go through an in-depth legal, due diligence process and only include equities listed on major stock exchanges such as the NYSE, Nasdaq and TSX.
