LSEG welcomes the Green Finance Taskforce report
On 28 March 2018, the UK Green Finance Taskforce published its recommendations to the UK Government and marked the occasion at an event with headline speakers The Rt Hon Claire Perry MP, Katharine Braddick Director General, Financial Services HM Treasury and Sir Roger Gifford, Chairman of the Green Finance Taskforce.
In September 2017 the Government established the Green Finance Taskforce – an alliance of individuals and organisations tasked with providing recommendations for the delivery of the public and private investment we need to meet our carbon budgets, the related environmental and resilience goals and to accelerate the UK’s share of the global green finance market.
The report covers retail, commercial, capital markets, institutional investors, venture capital and insurance and offers recommendations for both public and private sector in order to maximise the UK’s green finance activity in these areas.
Back on 6 February 2018, the UK Green Finance Taskforce were welcomed at the London Stock Exchange to open that day’s market.
Nikhil Rathi, CEO of London Stock Exchange, who is also a member of the Green Finance Taskforce, said:
"The transition to a sustainable economy is a global challenge and the UK and the City of London have a central role to play as partners in rising to it. Going back over 300 years, the UK has been the most global marketplace, financing global economic shifts, supporting the most efficient access to capital for governments and companies around the world. We congratulate Minister Claire Perry on the Government's leadership in green finance reform".
