Data & Analytics, Hong Kong
“I joined FTSE Russell in London as a graduate almost 20 years ago, so people often ask what’s kept me here for so long. My answer is always the people. LSEG is such an inclusive place to work – I feel like I belong here – and for me that’s very important. Both in the UK where I began my career, and in the Hong Kong office where I now work, I’m surrounded by role models. My colleagues are inspirational – they set an example for me to aspire to and they are the reason I look forward to going to work every day.
After all these years I still feel like I’m constantly learning something new. After starting out as a Data Analyst in London I worked my way up, and in 2011 I was asked to relocate to Hong Kong to grow our operations here. Back in those days we had a 24 hour team in the UK who would work night shifts to cover what was happening in Asia. My role was to build a team from scratch that could help us serve our clients locally instead. FTSE’s brand recognition in Asia was still quite low at the time, but in the past few years we’ve gone from strength to strength and it’s been a privilege to be part of that transformation.
Once the team was fully up and running I progressed to a more client-facing role and now I get to talk to different stakeholders across the whole financial ecosystem. The work that we do can have a huge global impact. For example, one of my responsibilities is to look at country classification, and last year after considerable work with regulators, exchanges and our clients we made the decision to reclassify China A shares as an emerging market. $10 billion flowed into China as a result of that decision and it made headlines around the world – I feel so proud to have been part of the team that made such a significant impact to the market. I count myself very fortunate to have been given this platform and my goal is to continue to grow both myself and the business here in Asia.”
