Utilitywise

To be successful in business, you need to be able to adapt to changing market conditions. That is according to Utilitywise, a leading energy and water consultancy.

The company started out seven years ago as a pure procurement business but soon realised its clients needed more help to reduce costs. "Now we not only help with procurement but also offer products and practical advice on how a business can reduce its power, gas and water consumption and cut its carbon footprint," CEO Geoff Thompson says.

Developing this offering wasn’t easy, though. The biggest challenge for Utilitywise was differentiating itself from the competition. "We made the decision to design and build all the IT systems needed to run the business in-house," Geoff says. "This has meant our systems can grow with the business and quickly adapt to our needs and the needs of the client." It has also enabled the company to develop products such as Energy Health Check, which have helped to give it a competitive edge.
