The world's most international exchange
London Stock Exchange’s markets position UK and international companies to access one of the world’s deepest pools of global investment capital. Our markets are home to thousands of companies from all over the world, ranging from start-ups to some of the world’s largest corporations. We understand that joining a public market is one of the most significant decisions a business will ever take. We aim to provide companies a platform for them to achieve their long term strategic ambitions. London Stock Exchange provides UK companies with a choice of routes to the market, depending on the company’s stage of development, size and strategy.
For UK companies a London listing maximises access to long-term knowledgeable global investors with companies able to attract an unparalleled range of domestic and international investors. Continued high levels of investment and liquidity show that investors have confidence in the marketplace.
The UK’s dedicated markets provide an important support mechanism for ambitious UK businesses looking to raise new and further capital.
On AIM, our market for growing companies, there are over 600 companies that have operations across a wide range of regions in the UK, with a combined market capitalisation of £38billion. Recent UK IPOs on AIM have been from innovative, fast growing companies who have looked to AIM for access to capital and to realise their growth potential. In particular we have witnessed a number of UK technology companies accessing the market to raise capital, including CentralNic, Netscientific and Outsourcery.
The Main Market, our flagship market for larger, more established companies continues to attract UK mid and large cap businesses from a wide range of sectors. There are over 1,300 companies on the Main Market and well known companies that have joined the market recently, raising funds from retail and institutional investors, include Royal Mail, Merlin Entertainments and Countrywide.
In 2013, reflecting the current improvement in investor sentiment towards IPO’s, a number of private-equity backed UK companies has successfully floated on our markets. These IPOs have performed well in the secondary market which has helped reinforce investor appetite for sponsor backed issuance. We are seeing a renewed interest in IPO from the private equity community which is encouraging for the pipeline.
We have seen a resurgence in technology companies using our markets to gain access to long term, sustainable equity funding, and reinforces London’s position as a global leader in supporting growth businesses.
